100-Megawatt Solar Power Plant Breaks Ground in Albania

Voltalia has launched the construction of the Spitalla photovoltaic power plant, a 100-megawatt facility located in Albania’s Durrës region near the Adriatic coast, just 50 kilometers from Tirana.

Set for commissioning in the second half of 2027, the plant will generate enough electricity to power 150,000 residents and avoid over 18,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Its energy output will be divided between:

  • 70 MW for a public contract awarded in 2021.

  • 30 MW for private-sector buyers under long-term agreements.

In December 2023, Voltalia completed the Karavasta1 solar power plant, the largest in the Western Balkans, with a capacity of 140 megawatts. Operating under a 30-year concession agreement, the plant prevents more than 29,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, accounting for approximately 7% of emissions from Albania’s industrial sector.

As the developer, builder, operator, and owner of both projects, Voltalia plays a central role in Albania’s renewable energy transformation.
