In a transformative move for Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy ambitions, a consortium led by Masdar, alongside GD Power of China and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), has been awarded the Al Sadawi Independent Power Producer (IPP) project.

This 2,000MWac solar photovoltaic plant, to be located in the Sadawi Region, represents a key milestone in Saudi Arabia's pursuit of its Vision 2030 targets.

As part of the Kingdom's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), this initiative underscores the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources' commitment to diversifying the nation's energy portfolio. Aligned with the National Transformation Program 2020, the NREP aims to drive Saudi Arabia closer to achieving its ambitious goal of generating 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

The Al Sadawi project is a flagship development under Round 5 of the NREP, positioning Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in clean energy transition.

This landmark solar project is not only a testament to Saudi Arabia’s growing renewable energy sector but also a critical step in advancing global collaboration towards a greener future.
