Sungrow has partnered with UK-based Fidra Energy on a groundbreaking 4.4 GWh energy storage initiative.
The collaboration includes building two of Europe’s largest standalone energy storage facilities in the UK: the 3.3 GWh Thorpe Marsh and 1.1 GWh West Burton C projects.
These power stations will connect to the UK’s high-voltage grid, supporting ancillary services, electricity trading, and the nation’s 2050 net-zero goals.
The projects will feature 880 units of Sungrow’s advanced PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems, designed to improve grid stability and operational efficiency while simplifying maintenance.
Construction is set to begin in 2025, with the facilities expected to power 1.1 million UK households upon completion.
Fidra Energy, backed by global energy investor EIG, is known for its rigorous partner selection. CEO Chris Elder emphasized the importance of large-scale energy storage in Europe’s energy transition, stating, “Energy storage is a proven, cost-effective, and flexible technology that is critical to Europe’s energy transition. Our strategic focus is on introducing more large-scale energy storage systems to the market by developing large-scale grid-side projects. Sungrow's grid-forming energy storage technology will support our growth goals in the UK and across Europe.”
