Acciona and Blue Circle to develop five wind projects of 436MW in Thailand



Acciona Energia has joined hands with its partner Blue Circle for five wind projects with a total capacity of 436MW in Thailand.

The duo has already signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the same with a staged development timeline.

According to the company, the projects have been allocated through a tender process by the Office of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Out of 5 projects, 4 will be located in the north-east provinces of Ubon Ratchatani and Amnat Charoen, while one will be built in the region of Chaiyaphum.

It informed that the projects will be ready from 2026 until 2030. Out of these, the first wind farm is likely to commence construction in 2024.

Acciona Energia stated that “all energy generated by these projects will be directly purchased by the state-owned Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT) through a 25-year PPA.”

It is a part of the Thai Government’s plan to guarantee a supply of renewable energy of up to 30% by 2037.

To be noted, Acciona Energia and Blue Circle had inked a deal to develop, build and operate its pipeline of projects in Southeast Asia last year.

So far, the entity has an installed operational capacity of 84MW in Vietnam while has a development pipeline of 3.8GW in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
