AES Andes has announced that the second phase of its Virtual Reservoir energy storage system has reached commercial operations in Chile.
The Latin American utility group informed that the project will “enable up to 197 MWh of electricity to be injected into the grid during peak demand hours.”
According to the company, the Virtual Reservoir II facility is connected to the Alfafal I run-of-river hydroelectric plant. The project is located in San Jose de Maipo, in the Santiago Metropolitan region.
It has been reported that the Virtual Reservoir II is followed after commissioning of AES Andes Iib solar-plus-storage project. This project has 223 MW of storage capacity in its portfolio.
