Akita kicks off commercial operation of a wind project in Japan



Akita Offshore Wind Corporation has kicked off commercial operation at its Noshiro Port wind project in Japan.

The company announced that this project is one of two projects being developed by the company. It informed that these two wind projects have a combined capacity of 140MW.

The projects are located in Akita Prefecture in Japan.

It has been reported that the Akita Port and Noshiro Port projects are likely to be recognized as the first commercial-scale fixed-bottom projects in Japan.

According to the company, Noshiro Port consists of 20 4.2MW turbines while Akita will have 13 4.2MW structures.

The company has inked a 20-year offtake deal for both sites with Tohoku Electric Power Network.

The developer informed that the other project Akita Port Offshore Wind Farm, is currently under commissioning work and will start its commercial operation soon.
