The Albanian government has approved two significant solar photovoltaic (PV) projects proposed by local companies, with a combined capacity exceeding 100 MW. This decision was announced by the Council of Ministers on Thursday.
The first and larger project involves a 100-MW solar farm to be developed by Sunny Side Energy, a renewable energy producer established in 2023 by the Kastrati Group, a conglomerate with interests ranging from construction to oil.
This solar farm will be located in the village of Darzeze, within the Dermenas administrative unit in southwestern Albania.
It is designed to operate for 49 years and is expected to begin generating green energy within 36 months of receiving the necessary permits. Notably, the project will be privately funded without reliance on state subsidies.
The Albanian government has also given the green light to an 8.3-MW solar park to be constructed by the state-owned energy company KESH at the Vau i Dejes hydropower plant site. This facility is anticipated to be commissioned within 36 months and is projected to produce approximately 11,213 MWh of electricity annually.
