Albania has officially inaugurated the Karavasta Solar Park, now the largest in the Balkans, marking a significant milestone in the country’s pursuit of energy independence and diversification.
Developed by Voltalia, the 140 MW solar park was commissioned at the end of 2023 and is expected to generate 265 GWh of electricity annually — enough to power approximately 220,000 people. The plant nearly doubles the electricity consumption of cities such as Kamza and Vlora, reinforcing Albania's shift toward renewable energy.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from both Albania and France, including Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku and France’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Benjamin Haddad, highlighting the strong bilateral partnership supporting Albania’s green transition.
Voltalia, a French renewable energy company, reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Albanian market. Following Karavasta, the company plans to deliver another major project — the 100 MW Spitalla solar park — by 2027, further contributing to the country’s clean energy goals.
