AMEA Power Initiates Pioneering Solar and Battery Energy Projects in Egypt with Helmy, Hamza & Partners' Support

Helmy, Hamza & Partners, the Baker McKenzie Cairo office, has provided legal counsel to AMEA Power on two significant renewable energy projects in Egypt, marking important milestones in the nation’s transition to green energy.

The first project entails the development of a 1,000 MWh solar power plant, paired with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This initiative, following AMEA Power's initial successful solar project in Egypt, marks the first integration of battery technology into the country's solar energy infrastructure. It also represents Egypt’s first Build-Own-Operate (BOO) solar development constructed in phases, introducing a new approach to energy generation in the region.

In the second project, AMEA Power is incorporating a 300 MWh BESS into the existing 500 MW Abydos Solar Power project. This enhancement aims to improve energy stability by managing power fluctuations, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels, and optimizing renewable energy use for a more balanced energy grid.

Mohamed El Harmy, Partner at Helmy, Hamza & Partners, who led the Baker McKenzie Cairo team, emphasized the importance of these projects: “These pioneering initiatives signify a major step in Egypt’s path toward a sustainable energy future. Our collaboration with AMEA Power underscores our commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions, contributing to a greener and more resilient energy landscape for Egypt and the region.”

The Baker McKenzie Cairo team included Counsel Ghada El Gharib, Senior Associate Ahmed Shehata, and Associate Omar Mahmoud, with additional support from the Corporate team led by Ghada El Ehwany and Associate Marah Hashem.

These projects strengthen AMEA Power’s position as a leader in the renewable energy sector and highlight Egypt’s expanding role in sustainable energy development.
