Argentina's First RIGI-Approved Project: The 305 MW El Quemado Solar Park

The Argentine Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, announced today on his personal account on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that the first project approved under the Regime of Incentives for Large Investments (RIGI) is the El Quemado solar park, with a total installed capacity of 305 MW. The project is being developed by YPF Luz and the Empresa Mendocina de Energía (Emesa) in the province of Mendoza.

The Evaluation Committee approved the first RIGI project, which was submitted less than two months ago. It is a 305 MW photovoltaic park by YPF Luz in Mendoza, with an investment of USD 211 million.

There are six other projects currently under evaluation, with several more close to being submitted.

El Quemado was the first renewable energy project presented to the RIGI in October of last year.

In September, the construction of the first phase of the park, with a capacity of 200 MW, was announced; the second phase will complete the full 305 MW capacity of the total project.

The first phase will involve the installation of more than 330,000 bifacial panels across 350 hectares, and it is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026.

The El Quemado project was originally developed by Emesa in four phases of 100 MW each and was acquired by YPF Luz in 2023.

The RIGI is promoted by the Argentine government to attract investment projects exceeding 200 million dollars through fiscal, customs, and exchange incentives.
