Azerbaijan Aims to Deploy 7 GW of Renewable Energy Capacity by 2030-Ministry

At the Caspian Energy Forum in Baku on Wednesday, Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov announced Azerbaijan's plan to deploy 7 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Zeynalov outlined that 2 GW of this capacity will be dedicated to the domestic market, 4 GW will be allocated for export via the Black Sea green energy corridor connecting Azerbaijan and Georgia to Europe, and 1 GW will be used for export through the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to Turkey and Europe.

He noted that Azerbaijan has an onshore renewable energy potential of 135 GW and offshore potential of 157 GW.

The Energy Ministry, in collaboration with international energy companies and financial institutions, is advancing renewable energy projects totaling 28 GW. These initiatives are expected to free up 0.8-1 billion cubic meters of gas for export by 2027-2030. The goal is to increase the share of renewables in the energy system's installed capacity to 30% by 2030. However, with the current development rate, this figure is anticipated to reach 32.6% by 2027 and 35% by 2030.

Currently, Azerbaijan's installed renewable energy capacity stands at approximately 1.7 GW, accounting for 20.9% of the total installed generating capacity.
