BKW and Zelestra Seal PPA to Promote Solar Energy in Italy

BKW has signed two ten-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with global renewable energy company Zelestra, marking a significant step in its commitment to the energy transition. These agreements will help avoid up to 14,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and boost renewable energy production in Italy.

The two PPAs involve electricity from two photovoltaic plants located in Apulia and Sicily. The AGV Bellomo plant in Modica, Sicily (9.5 MW) will save 8,592 tons of CO2 annually, while the AGV Ginosa plant in Apulia (6.5 MW) will reduce emissions by 5,654 tons per year. The electricity generated will be managed by BKW and sold to industrial and commercial consumers in Italy.

Stefan Sewckow, Head of Energy Markets at BKW, commented, "These PPAs represent a key milestone in our sustainable growth strategy and align with Italy’s renewable energy ambitions. We remain committed to environmental responsibility and delivering value for our stakeholders."

Martina Nicodemo, Senior Commodity Originator at BKW, expressed pride in the partnership with Zelestra, highlighting Italy’s importance as a key market for clean energy.

These agreements are part of BKW’s broader strategy, which includes a third PPA signed in December with German-Austrian solar developer CCE for a 42 MW solar plant in Lazio. The three PPAs signed in December underline BKW's leadership in Italy's clean energy market.

The new contracts also align with BKW’s Solutions 2030 strategy, which emphasizes significant growth through long-term power purchase agreements.
