Black & Veatch has been appointed as the Owner’s Engineer (OE) and Technical Advisor (TA) for two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK, with a combined capacity of 200MWh.
As the UK accelerates its transition to renewable energy, battery storage solutions are key to ensuring grid stability. The government’s ambitious net-zero by 2050 goal reinforces the demand for resilient, clean energy infrastructure.
“Integrating BESS into the UK’s grid enhances resilience, optimizes performance, and promotes sustainable, cost-effective energy practices,” said Robbie Gibson, Associate Vice President – Renewables and Grid Solutions Director for Black & Veatch in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In its role as OE and TA, Black & Veatch will independently review contractor deliverables, provide technical oversight, and monitor project construction.
The company has a strong track record across Europe and the Middle East, having served as a Technical Advisor, Owner’s Engineer, and Due Diligence expert on projects totaling 4GWh of energy storage capacity.
