Cambodia and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to energy sector cooperation, anticipating Prime Minister Hun Manet’s upcoming visit to Vientiane.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Keo Rattanak, held discussions with Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone during a recent visit. The establishment of a 500-kilovolt electricity transmission line linking southern Champasak province in Laos to Cambodia has strengthened energy ties.
Cambodia currently imports about 25% of its power needs from neighboring countries, including Laos. The power trade between the two nations is expected to reach 6,000 MW by 2030.
Laos aims to become the “battery of Southeast Asia” with hydroelectric plants and plans to generate an additional 5,559 MW of electricity by 2030.
