The Cambridge has completed a large-scale solar panel installation at its Head Office in central Cambridge. The installation, completed by solar and electrical contracting specialists Spartek, features 258 solar panels and is among the largest slate-roof solar projects in the city’s commercial sector.
The project was executed in just five weeks, underscoring both the scale and efficiency of the effort.
The newly installed solar panels are expected to generate approximately 116,000 kWh of electricity annually, equating to the energy needed to power around 40 three-bedroom homes for a year.
Richard Brockbank, Chief Financial Officer at The Cambridge, emphasized the importance of adopting renewable energy sources: “Renewable energy sources such as solar offer a really effective way to make that positive change and our Head Office becoming solar powered is just the beginning for our sustainability journey.”
Lee Watson, Managing Director at Spartek, commented on the project’s impact: “The Cambridge Head Office project is the largest slate roof solar panel installation we have completed to date and is one of the largest rooftop solar panel examples in central Cambridge. It highlights perfectly what can be achieved in a commercial setting with relatively little disruption.”
The Cambridge is also embarking on an innovative project to retrofit a 1930s semi-detached house, showcasing a range of energy-efficient upgrades that homeowners can adopt. The retrofit includes ten solar panels with an annual output of 3,000 kWh—enough energy to power a kettle for more than 100 days.
