Chilean utility Colbun SA has started the environmental permitting process for its Encanto power project in the O'Higgins region. The project aims to develop a 249.7-MWp solar farm coupled with a 260-MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
The total investment for this project is estimated at USD 500 million (EUR 480.6m), based on Colbun’s permit application.
Located on private land in the Marchigue commune, the project will feature over 349,000 photovoltaic modules and a battery storage capacity of 1,040 MWh, along with a substation and transmission line.
Construction is planned to begin in April 2026, pending approval.n.
