Cubico Sustainable Investments has signed agreements with Tesla to begin construction of its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the UK.
The 47.5MW/95MWh Mannington BESS project, located in Dorset, will be Cubico's first construction project in its global 3.6GW pipeline. The project is set to connect to National Grid’s 400kV substation and is slated for commissioning in 2026.
Cubico's global portfolio includes solar, wind, and transmission infrastructure projects across North and South America, Southern Europe, and the UK. The company is also working on a 504MW wind farm in Queensland, Australia, and has recently formed a joint venture with Storaltil to develop 1GW of battery storage in Italy.
In the UK, Cubico has a 2,400MW pipeline, which includes solar and onshore wind projects. The company took full control of its UK JV, Peel Cubico Renewables (PCR), in early 2024 and is currently developing the 130MW Frodsham Solar power plant as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
Tesla, the supplier and system integrator for the Mannington BESS, continues to expand its energy storage business, with new trial production of battery storage technology at its Shanghai factory and a dedicated Megapack factory in California.
