The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for up to 2 GW of solar PV and 1 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The project will be located within the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, about 50 km south of Dubai.
This marks the seventh phase of the solar park, following the financial close of the sixth phase in February 2024, which saw Masdar awarded a contract for 1.6 GW of solar PV capacity. The seventh phase will feature a 1.6-2 GW solar PV component paired with a 6-hour BESS, with commissioning set to begin in August 2027.
DEWA is seeking a developer, or a consortium, to build and operate the project on an independent power producer (IPP) basis. Power generated will be purchased by DEWA under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The tender closes on 21 March 2025.
This follows DEWA’s previous EOI in November 2024 for 1.6 GW of solar PV and 1 GW of BESS.
