Doosan Škoda Power secures first contract in Thailand

Turbine manufacturer Doosan Škoda Power has secured a first contract in Thailand for steam power plant.

As per the contract, the company will supply a 20MW steam turbine generator for a newly built power plant. The facility is located in the Rayong province, Thailand.

The latest development comes following negotiations with the EPC contractor and the investors Thai company TTCL and EGCO.

“Thailand is very different from other countries in its organisation, history and mentality. Only after understanding these rules were we able to convince our Thai customers of the quality of our turbines and our ability to reliably implement the project, including the availability of quality service for the entire lifetime of the installed equipment,” Doosan Škoda Power’s official Jaroslav Hejl was quoted.

It has been reported that the excess power from the power plant will be supplied to the transmission grid operated by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. It is likely to join the transmission grid in 2024.

According to the company, these agreements also follow Doosan Škoda’s entry into the Indonesian and Japanese markets.

To be noted, Thailand has a generating capacity of around 49GW, with renewables accounting for 23%.
