DSV invests R150m in sustainable energy infrastructure at South African logistics parks with HSBC GreenLoan

DSV is investing R150 million to implement battery and PV panel systems across its three newly developed logistics parks in South Africa. This significant investment marks one of the first sustainable financing endeavors in the country, facilitated through a Green Loan provided by HSBC. Aligned with DSV’s dedication to responsible and sustainable business practices, this initiative will further augment the existing green building features at its logistics centers, including alternative energy sources, rainwater harvesting, utilization of grey water, and energy-efficient building management systems.

The introduction of batteries and PV panels is poised to mitigate the impact of load shedding and substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions at DSV Park | Gauteng, DSV Park | Cape Town, and the upcoming DSV Park | Durban.

Anticipated benefits include a reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 40%, from 14,738 tons to 9,227 tons annually, within a year of project completion. The most significant reduction, expected to reach 2,532 tons annually, is forecasted for Cape Town (from 4,516 to 1,984 tons per year), followed by 1,933 tons per year in Gauteng (7,263 to 5,330 tons per year), and an estimated decrease of 1,046 tons per year in Durban (from 2,958 to 1,913 tons per year).

HSBC’s green loans are accessible for eligible green projects with defined sustainability objectives aimed at positively impacting the environment or mitigating climate change. DSV’s sustainability efforts prioritize meeting the demands of present global supply chains while safeguarding the capacity of future generations to meet their own needs. These sustainability ambitions, targets, and actions are aligned with DSV’s commitment to the UN Global Compact and the Science Based Targets initiative, contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
