Global energy storage specialist Eku Energy has announced the acquisition of seven UK battery energy storage system (BESS) projects from Bluestone Energy, totaling 1GW / 2GWh of planned capacity. The portfolio includes:
📍 98MW / 196MWh in Leatherhead, Surrey
📍 98MW / 196MWh in West Moors, Dorset
📍 Two 240MW projects in East Sussex and Kent
🗓️ The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2025.
The acquisition builds on a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) formed between Eku and Bluestone in 2022, allowing both parties to jointly develop and de-risk early-stage projects before Eku Energy takes over for delivery and operations.
💬 Daniel Burrows, CEO of Eku Energy:“This acquisition reinforces our strategy to scale utility-scale storage solutions and reflects our strong confidence in the UK’s clean energy transition. The expanded portfolio enhances our flexibility in delivering reliable, long-term storage services to our partners.”
💬 Freddy White, CEO of Bluestone Energy:“This is a proud milestone for Bluestone. It affirms our development approach and commitment to accelerating the UK’s energy storage market.”
Eku Energy already operates the 40MW Maldon BESS, with two other sites—Basildon (28MW) and Loudwater (40MW)—currently under construction.
