Elements Green has signed a £71.5 million agreement with G2 Energy (part of Mitie Power & Grid) to develop the Staythorpe Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Nottinghamshire.
Positioned near the Staythorpe National Grid Substation, this 360MW/720MWh project will be one of the UK’s largest energy storage facilities, capable of powering 95,000 homes for a full day.
With a 40-year operational lifespan, the project also prioritizes environmental impact, committing to a 25.7% biodiversity net gain through 12 acres of woodlands and wildflower meadows, including 129 new trees. Construction begins this month, creating around 60 jobs.
Elements Green CEO Rasmus Friis emphasized the project's role in enhancing grid resilience and advancing the UK’s net-zero transition. Mitie executives also highlighted the initiative’s contribution to clean energy goals, local job creation, and economic growth.
