Emirates Airline Launches 23W Solar Project

Emirates Airline is launching a significant solar energy project at its Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai, expected to supply 37% of the facility's annual energy needs.

The initiative will be led by Etihad Clean Energy Development, following a partnership agreement signed at the World Green Economy Summit 2024. The agreement encompasses the development, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the solar system, along with a 20-year contract for operation and maintenance services.

Once completed, the project will feature a total of 39,960 solar panels, generating an impressive 23,177 kW (23.2 MW) annually. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, emphasized that integrating solar energy into the Emirates Engineering Centre will significantly reduce Emirates' carbon footprint and align with the UAE’s clean energy objectives.

Emirates has made strides in solar energy across other facilities in Dubai, including the Emirates Flight Catering facility and the Sevens Stadium, which features the region's first and largest solar carport at a sporting venue. This project underscores Emirates’ commitment to sustainability and the transition to cleaner energy sources.
