Enel Chile, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile, has launched the second industrial-scale hybrid renewable energy plant in the Metropolitan Region.
The Don Humberto plant, with an installed capacity of 81 MW for solar generation, will produce around 188 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power approximately 80,000 households and avoid over 148,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
The facility, which includes a 67 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capable of storing energy for two hours, will provide stability to the National Electric System (SEN) by delivering clean energy during peak demand or when solar resources are low. This addition will enhance the resilience and flexibility of Chile’s energy matrix, allowing for better management of energy demand.
Giuseppe Turchiarelli, CEO of Enel Chile, emphasized the importance of regulatory support for technologies like BESS to reduce systemic costs and improve energy management.
