Enel Panama, a subsidiary of Enel Colombia, has officially commenced operations at its two largest solar facilities in Panama: the Baco and Madre Vieja solar farms, located in Chiriqui province.
These projects together contribute more than 60 MWdc of clean energy to the national grid, significantly boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity.
Key Highlights:
Madre Vieja Solar Farm: With a capacity of 30.88 MWdc, this plant is expected to generate approximately 48.91 GWh of electricity annually. It consists of around 70,000 solar panels spread across 33 hectares in Baru District.
Baco Solar Farm: Adjacent to Madre Vieja, Baco has an installed capacity of 30 MWdc and is expected to produce 48 GWh of electricity per year. It is equipped with more than 50,400 solar panels on 32 hectares of land.
Together, these two plants will provide enough power for over 46,000 homes, reinforcing Enel Panama's commitment to clean energy and sustainable development.
The construction of these solar farms created around 300 jobs, mainly benefiting the local community in Baru District.
With the addition of these two projects, Enel Panama now operates approximately 162 MWdc of solar capacity across 11 plants in the country. In 2023, Enel's solar farms connected to Panama’s grid injected over 91,600 MWh of renewable electricity, powering more than 44,200 homes annually.
