ENGIE Secures 250 MW Floating Offshore Wind Project in France

ENGIE, through its 50-50 joint venture Ocean Winds with EDPR, has been awarded a 250 MW floating offshore wind project by the French Ministry of Industry and Energy as part of the AO6 call for tenders.

The project, named Eoliennes Flottantes d'Occitanie (EFLO), is located off the coast of Narbonne in the Mediterranean. With an installed capacity of 250 MW, it will generate around 1 TWh of electricity annually, meeting the energy needs of 500,000 people.

This win reinforces ENGIE’s commitment to advancing offshore wind energy in France, leveraging its expertise in floating wind technology and a partnership with Banque des Territoires (CDC).

ENGIE CEO Catherine MacGregor expressed pride in the recognition of their floating offshore wind capabilities, citing Ocean Winds as a leader in the sector, particularly with the WindFloat Atlantic project, the first floating wind farm in continental Europe.

Ocean Winds is currently developing three major offshore wind projects in France totaling 1 GW: Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) (30 MW), Îles d'Yeu et Noirmoutier (500 MW), and Dieppe Le Tréport (500 MW). Combined with the EFLO project, Ocean Winds’ global portfolio now includes 18.8 GW of offshore wind capacity under operations, construction, or secured development.
