After completing Sweden’s first large-scale hybrid park combining wind and solar power in Skåramåla, European Energy is moving forward with its second hybrid project in Grevekulla, Ydre municipality. Construction will begin within three weeks.
This new project will add a 38 MWp solar park to the site of an existing 36 MW wind park, creating a combined capacity capable of powering around 28,000 households annually. The solar installation will span over 40 hectares and include 61,776 panels.
Co-locating wind and solar energy enables better land and grid utilisation, leveraging their complementary generation patterns to improve energy stability and reduce environmental impact.
“This co-location approach helps us optimise the grid, balance production across seasons, and lower the footprint of new energy infrastructure,” said Peter Braun, Country Manager at European Energy Sweden.
Approved by the County Administrative Board after environmental review and local stakeholder consultations, the site was deemed to have low ecological sensitivity—making it suitable for solar development.
The Grevekulla hybrid park is expected to be fully operational by 2026, and will also support the local economy through collaboration with regional contractors.
