FlevoBESS to Launch Netherlands' Largest BESS

FlevoBESS is set to launch the Netherlands' largest battery by the end of 2025, with a capacity of 31.6 MW/126.4 MWh. Located next to the Windplan Groen transformer station in Dronten, this project will help balance supply and demand for sustainable electricity.

A loan agreement with ASN Bank was signed in December 2024, and Eneco will manage the battery under a long-term contract. The FlevoBESS battery is part of the Dronter Energie Opslag park, which will feature three 31.6 MW batteries to optimize wind energy use from connected wind farms. The batteries will store surplus electricity and provide power during low production periods, extending turbine operation hours and enhancing sustainability.

FlevoBESS is a local partnership, with over 400 shareholders, including nearby residents, aimed at promoting sustainable energy use. The battery's capacity will support the daily energy needs of around 23,000 households.
