Fluence and DTEK Partner to Deliver Ukraine’s First Large-Scale Battery Storage Portfolio

DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, has partnered with Fluence Energy to supply the country's first large-scale battery-based energy storage portfolio. This project, a key part of DTEK's #FightforLight campaign, aims to enhance Ukraine's energy independence, stabilize the power grid, and accelerate its renewable energy transition.

The project will feature six energy storage plants across Ukraine, ranging from 20 MW to 50 MW, totaling 200 MW with a storage capacity of up to 400 MWh. This capacity will provide two hours of power to 600,000 homes, strengthening the grid ahead of the 2025/26 winter season.

Fluence will deliver advanced storage systems that will support frequency and power balancing for the Ukrainian power grid, working with Ukrenergo. Unlike conventional plants, battery assets respond in milliseconds, ensuring quicker restoration of stability and minimizing outages.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko emphasized that the battery storage is crucial for Ukraine’s decentralized energy vision, while Fluence CEO Julian Nebreda highlighted the partnership’s role in reinforcing Ukraine’s energy security.

The project, slated for completion by October 2025, will see Fluence bring its proven expertise in energy storage solutions to Ukraine, with both teams collaborating on installation, integration, and future maintenance.
