GOGLA and e-MFP Join Forces to Connect Off-Grid Solar with Financial Inclusion

GOGLA, the global association for off-grid solar energy, has formed a reciprocal membership with the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) to foster collaboration between the off-grid solar and financial inclusion sectors. This partnership aims to create new opportunities and communication channels, linking two industries that serve similar communities.

The collaboration reflects the growing convergence of these sectors, as financial inclusion organizations seek to expand access to off-grid solar products, while solar stakeholders aim to work closely with financial providers to enhance customer financing options beyond Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) models.

Key initiatives will include knowledge sharing on consumer protection, outcome measurement, and connecting potential partners. Both organizations will also co-host major events, such as the 2024 Global Off-Grid Solar Forum in Nairobi and European Microfinance Week in Luxembourg.

Christoph Pausch, Executive Secretary of e-MFP, expressed excitement about the partnership, “”We are very pleased to have GOGLA as a member and for e-MFP to join GOGLA. This collaboration will help us strengthen connections between the financial inclusion sector and off-grid energy providers.” While Sarah Malm, Executive Director of GOGLA, emphasized its potential to improve access to clean energy for underserved communities. “This partnership with e-MFP will strengthen our work to increase access to clean energy, energize economies, and increase climate resilience,” she said. Both organizations look forward to exploring new opportunities and invite their members to engage with the partnership for sustainable development.
