During his International Mission of the Northeast Consortium in Europe, Governor Elmano de Freitas sealed a Memorandum of Understanding with Eletrobras for the production of green hydrogen (H2V) and its derivatives at the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP) in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. The signing occurred at the CIPP stand on the second day of World Hydrogen 2024 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Governor Freitas emphasized the significance of the agreement in boosting job creation and income generation while contributing to a more sustainable world. He highlighted the provision of renewable energy and H2V to future industrial projects in Ceará as a key aspect of the partnership.
Ivan Monteiro, President of Eletrobras, underscored the company’s commitment to global energy transition, stating that the agreement aligns with the strategy of promoting clean and renewable energy sources, thus contributing to decarbonization and energy security.
Ceará has already inked 37 memorandums with national and foreign companies for the development of the green hydrogen production chain at the Pecém Port Hub.
Additionally, six pre-contracts have been signed by the State Government for green hydrogen production.
Hugo Figueirêdo, President of CIPP, welcomed Eletrobras, expressing confidence in the company’s contribution to the growth of Brazil’s energy system and the consolidation of the green hydrogen hub in Pecém.
Governor Freitas also engaged in discussions with executives from Fortescue Metals Group to advance green hydrogen production in Ceará. Several other meetings were scheduled, including discussions with Gasunie executives and a meeting with Rotterdam’s vice-mayor, Robert Simons, who previously visited the Pecém Complex.
