GridStor, a developer and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage systems, has acquired a 200 MW / 800 MWh battery storage project in Oklahoma from Black Mountain Energy Storage (BMES). The project, set to be developed in two phases, will enhance power system reliability for the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), a region experiencing growing energy demand from data centers and large industrial customers.
Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor, emphasized that battery storage is a critical, scalable solution to address rising power demands and ensure grid stability, particularly during peak demand hours. The Oklahoma project, located in Eastern Oklahoma, will increase grid resilience by participating in the SPP-managed electricity market, supporting both daily power supply and future energy needs.
Witt Duncan, CCO of BMES, expressed support for the acquisition, noting that the collaboration with GridStor will help meet emerging grid challenges with reliable and sustainable storage solutions. This acquisition marks GridStor's second major project in the past year.
Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, GridStor specializes in integrating battery storage systems with U.S. power infrastructure. The company targets regions facing rapid energy demand growth and rising grid reliability needs.
