Iberdrola España to install six battery energy storage systems in Spain

Iberdrola España is all set to install six battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Spain. The project will have a combined capacity of 150MW.

According to the company, these six new batteries are Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation in the company's renewable energy, green hydrogen and storage division.

Each battery will have 25MW of power and a capacity of 50MWh. The projects will receive €37.5m in funding in total. The projects will be located in Castilla y León, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha and Andalusia.

It has been informed that the assets will be installed as hybrid technology together with renewable energy sources. Due to this, the PV plant and BESS will share the same connection point. The projects will also have lithium-ion technology.

The company shared that a BESS will be installed in Revilla Vallejera (Burgos) in Castilla y León. This is the same location where Iberdrola España had completed its first hybrid wind-solar plant last year.

Similarly, Extremadura will have two new batteries, while there will be installations of two assets in the province of Cáceres. Likewise, two storage units will be installed in the municipalities of Valverdejo, Alarcón and Olmedilla de Alarcón (Cuenca) in Castilla La Mancha.

The last asset will be built in Huelva, in the municipality of Puebla de Guzmán, where the company already has the photovoltaic plant.
