Iberdrola has secured a €100 million green loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to build a photovoltaic plant in Sicily, supported by the Archimede guarantee from SACE.
Set to be operational in 2025, the plant will be located in the provinces of Enna and Catania, with a generation capacity of 242.78 MWp, enough to supply renewable energy to around 154,000 households annually.
This investment is a significant step in boosting Italy's renewable energy capacity and aligning with the European Union's climate objectives. The EIB’s financing, 70% covered by the Archimede guarantee, aims to increase Italy's competitiveness and attract foreign investment to the country.
EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti highlighted the bank's role in supporting Italy’s renewable energy transition, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering economic growth. SACE CEO Alessandra Ricci emphasized the project's potential to drive productivity and job creation, noting that over €4.9 billion has been approved under the Archimede guarantee since its launch last June.
Valerio Faccenda, CEO of Iberdrola Italy, emphasized that the project will contribute to Italy's energy transition, providing clean energy to thousands of homes.
The plant will utilize state-of-the-art technologies, ensuring high energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Its construction will also create local employment opportunities, benefiting the regional economy.
