The Spanish developer Iberdrola is all set to construct Europe’s largest solar plant of a 1200MW in Portugal.
The company has already secured approvals to build this project. Iberdrola will work together with Prosolia Energy as partners.
According to the company, it has obtained environmental permits to build the 1.2GW Fernando Pessoa solar project. The solar plant will be installed in Santiago do Cacém, near Sines.
The solar plant will come into operation in 2025. So far, around 2500 jobs will be created.
The company state, “this plant will be an example of the "coexistence of new renewable developments with environmental heritage and local communities.”
Iberdrola Executive Chairman, Ignacio Galán, was quoted in a statement, “This solar farm sets a new benchmark in combining Europe’s clean energy ambitions with the delivery of tangible environmental and social benefits.”
He further said, “We need to reduce our exposure to fossil fuels. We are proud to continue and strengthen our commitment to Portugal with new clean infrastructure across the country, as we did with the Tâmega gigabattery.”
Portugal has planned of accelerating the deployment of clean energy in Portugal.
