India's Renewable Energy capacity has increased by about 290 per cent in the last 8 years.

This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launch of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

The growth comes with a pledge to cut India’s emissions to net zero by 2070. Currently, India ranks fourth in wind energy and fifth in solar energy globally.

He further stated that as renewable energy contributes enormously towards lowering GHG, India already has the fourth largest capacity for renewable energy in the world, a local report mentioned.

India has also stressed on hydrogen in recent times, as it moves towards an environment-friendly energy source in line with the National Hydrogen Mission.

“This will help India and many countries of the world to achieve their goal of net zero,” he stated. The PM He also stressed on the global campaign of One Sun, One World, One Grid.

As per the official statistics, India’s per capita carbon footprint is about 1.5 tonnes annually. The country has launched the PLI scheme for solar modules to reduce the footprint by incentivising the manufacturing of domestic solar cell modules.
