Indonesian Ministry of Energy and UNDP Collaborate to Train Operators for Solar Power Plant Maintenance

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), through its Center for Human Resource Development for Electricity, New and Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (PPSDM KEBTKE), has introduced a Technical Training and Certification program focused on Solar Power Plant (PLTS) maintenance. This initiative, in partnership with UNDP ACCESS, is designed to equip local operators with the skills necessary to maintain solar power facilities to high competency standards.

Susetyo Edi Nugraha, Head of PPSDM KEBTKE, highlighted that the program supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and Indonesia’s objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. “This training not only provides access to renewable energy but also aligns with our environmental goals and the SDGs,” Susetyo stated during the program’s launch in Jakarta on Monday, September 9, 2024.

The training, running from September 9 to 13, 2024, involves 16 participants from regions such as Central Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara. The aim is to cultivate skilled operators capable of effectively maintaining solar power plants, thereby ensuring these facilities deliver ongoing benefits to local communities and the environment.

Susetyo also expressed appreciation for the support from regional governments and UNDP ACCESS, emphasizing that such collaborative efforts are crucial for the long-term success of renewable energy projects in Indonesia.

UNDP Indonesia’s Energy Cluster Program Manager, Gwyneth Anne Palmos, underscored the importance of this training for the sustainability of solar power plants developed under the ACCESS Project, which seeks to enhance electricity access in 22 villages across four provinces. To date, 66 operators have been trained under this initiative.
