Infinity Power, the leading African renewable energy provider, has committed to a groundbreaking initiative in Cameroon. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cameroon West Regional Council, Infinity Power aims to develop up to 4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2035. This ambitious project will span various technologies including solar, battery storage, wind, hydro, and biomass plants, strategically located across the Western Region of Cameroon.
Cameroon, which has experienced a significant 27% increase in electricity consumption per capita over the past two decades, currently relies heavily on gas and hydro power. The new renewable energy projects by Infinity Power aim to meet the nation’s growing energy demands sustainably.
The MoU was signed by Infinity Power’s Deputy CEO, Mr. Ahmed Mulla, and Dr. Jules Hilaire Focka Focka, President of the Cameroon West Regional Council, in the presence of Dr. Vincent Kitio from UN-Habitat. UN-Habitat will play a pivotal role in the development process, offering technical expertise, conducting feasibility studies, and ensuring community benefits through effective energy governance.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, expressed excitement about the venture, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure across Africa. Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, highlighted the transformative potential of the project in bolstering Cameroon’s economy and improving local communities’ living conditions.
Ahmed Mulla emphasized the partnership’s significance in addressing Cameroon’s energy needs sustainably, aligning with Infinity Power’s broader mission to illuminate Africa. Dr. Jules Hilaire Focka Focka praised the initiative for its potential to stimulate industrial development in the Western Region, which faces daily power shortages hindering social and economic progress.
Dr. Vincent Kitio from UN-Habitat highlighted the region’s substantial renewable energy potential and underscored the project’s role in driving socio-economic development. The initiative is expected to impact over 5 million Cameroonians by alleviating poverty and mitigating climate change effects.
Infinity Power’s latest endeavor in Cameroon marks a significant milestone in its pan-African renewable energy strategy, supporting the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. This initiative follows Infinity Power’s recent agreement with the Egyptian Government for a monumental 10GW onshore wind project, solidifying its position as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
