Invenergy has announced the successful commercial operation of the Yuma Solar Energy Center, a 70 MW solar and 70 MW storage project in Yuma County, Arizona. This marks Invenergy’s first solar facility in the state.
Generating enough electricity to power over 21,000 homes, the project created more than 250 jobs during construction and now supports six full-time local positions. It will deliver clean power to Arizona Public Services (APS) under a long-term agreement.
Jim Shield, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Invenergy, praised the milestone, emphasizing the importance of partnerships and investment in cleaner energy solutions for the community.
The Yuma Solar project is part of a long-standing collaboration between Invenergy and APS, which has delivered over 250 MW of clean energy capacity to Arizona in the past two years. Notable projects include the El Sol Energy Storage Center and the Hashknife Solar Energy Center.
Brian Cole, APS Vice President of Resource Management, highlighted the project’s importance in meeting rising energy demands as Arizona heads into another hot summer.
Arizona Corporation Commission Chairman Kevin Thompson also recognized the project’s significance, noting its positive impact on the grid and local economy.
Statewide, Invenergy invests over $2.2 million annually in local communities through land leases, taxes, and job creation, reinforcing Arizona’s leadership in renewable energy.
