With the US Matrix Service Company, Korea Gas Corporation has entered into a “commercial arrangement for the creation of a huge liquid hydrogen tank and cargo hold.”
This agreement is a follow-up to the discussion about the state of liquid hydrogen storage technology and collaboration with KOGAS that President Chae Hee-bong, president of Korea Gas Corporation, had with Matrix executives and experts in the field of liquid hydrogen when he visited the United States to attend the Hydrogen Committee in June. It was successful.
The two businesses agreed to work closely together in the future in a number of areas, including the design and construction of domestic liquid hydrogen receiving bases, the development of large-scale liquid hydrogen onshore storage tanks, and the design and construction of liquid hydrogen transport ship technology.
With this agreement as a chance, KOGAS intends to develop key technologies for the storage and transportation of liquid hydrogen in the hydrogen value chain and to promote the development of a domestic hydrogen industrial ecosystem by introducing liquid hydrogen.
In the form of combined research and development, the two businesses want to carry out the conceptual design of the first hydrogen receiving station based on an LNG receiving station. If the project is successful, Korea’s first hydrogen receiving facility will be built at KOGAS’ Pyeongtaek LNG receiving station.
In addition to doing EPC for various LNG and petrochemical facilities and power plants in 55 different countries across the world, Matrix has a history of EPC involving over 170 storage tanks (petroleum, chemical, hydrogen, etc.) in North America and over 240 million barrels. did. 13 liquefied hydrogen storage facility EPC components, including the storage facility for the hydrogen liquefaction plant finished this year in Nevada, USA, have specifically been completed to date.
“Liquid hydrogen storage and transportation is a vital technology for reaching carbon neutrality and anticipating large-scale hydrogen consumption in the mid-to-long term,” said Hee-bong Chae, president of Gas Corporation. will be ready,” he assured.
