Malaysia is positioning itself as a clean energy leader in the Asia-Pacific region, leveraging its strong solar potential and policy commitments, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
At the UN Asia-Pacific Business Forum 2025, Fadillah highlighted Malaysia’s ambition to become a solar energy powerhouse, citing successful nationwide and floating solar projects. He also emphasized the untapped potential of biomass and hydropower to diversify the energy mix.
Fadillah linked these efforts to the Asia Pacific Green Deal—a regional framework to boost cooperation, clean energy adoption, and low-carbon economic growth. He proposed regional energy trade systems among Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and called on developed nations like Japan and Australia to provide technological and financial support.
As 2025 ASEAN Chair, Malaysia plans to accelerate regional energy integration, innovation, and infrastructure development through policy coordination and strategic partnerships.
