Matrix Renewables, backed by TPG Rise, has entered the UK market through a partnership with Green BESS Developments (UK) Ltd. The collaboration will advance two standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects—Eccles and Kilmarnock—in Scotland, totaling 1GW/2GWh.
Strategically located along key transmission corridors between Scotland and England, the projects will support grid stability and accelerate the UK’s clean energy transition. Scheduled for grid connection in 2027, Matrix is finalizing technical design, offtake strategies, and financing with a leading UK EPC partner.
This move marks a major step for Matrix in Europe’s most advanced standalone storage market. The company plans to develop over 2GW of additional generation and storage in the UK over the next three years, investing over £1 billion and creating significant local jobs.
Sergio Arbeláez, Managing Director for Europe and Latin America at Matrix Renewables, said:“This UK entry aligns with our long-term strategy and diversifies our technology portfolio. We’re excited to anchor our presence in such a dynamic market.”
Karel Nohejl, Chairman of Green BESS, added:“We’re pleased to partner with Matrix to bring these vital BESS projects to life and contribute meaningfully to the UK’s energy future.”
