Moldova is advancing its renewable energy plans with the construction of two solar power plants. One will be located in Rădeni, Strășeni district, with a 50 MW capacity, while the other, in Negureni, Telenești district, will have a 40 MW capacity.
Both plants are expected to be operational by the end of this year, with construction slated to be completed within about 10 months.
The government’s draft decisions regarding these projects are open to public consultation until January 15, after which the Executive will vote on them.
Lacking traditional energy resources, Moldova is working to tap into its renewable energy potential, primarily from wind, solar, and biomass. The Ministry of Energy estimates that the country’s renewable energy potential is around 65 TWh, enough to cover its entire primary energy demand.
Currently, renewables account for over 12% of Moldova's total energy consumption.
Looking ahead, Moldova aims to meet 30% of its energy consumption with renewable sources by 2030.
