National Grid Renewables Begins Construction on 100-MW Solar Project in Wisconsin


National Grid Renewables announced the commencement of construction on its 100-MW Apple River Solar Project in Wisconsin. Located in Polk County, the facility will utilize First Solar Series 6 Plus bifacial modules.


Once completed and operational by late 2025, the solar farm will generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 26,000 homes annually.


Xcel Energy will be the recipient of the power generated by the project. The Boldt Company has been selected to handle the construction of the solar facility.


Project Benefits

  • $36 million in direct economic impact over 20 years

  • $10 million in new tax revenue over first 20 years of operation

  • $500,000 in charitable giving during the first 20 years of operation

  • 150 construction and service-related jobs

  • 129,900 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions offset per year

  • 30,900 the equivalent number of cars removed from the road for one year
