
NORD/LB has announced a landmark £180 million financing package for Constantine Energy Storage’s 612 MW battery energy storage portfolio—the largest ever financed in Europe.
Strategically located across England and Wales, the seven BESS projects are adjacent to key substations, ensuring efficient transmission into the National Grid. Featuring 2.7-hour batteries with a total capacity of 612 MW (1,652 MWh), the assets are designed to optimize revenue and operational efficiency.
Florian Hock, Senior Director at NORD/LB, highlighted the deal’s significance: “This financing showcases our commitment to pioneering renewable energy projects. We’re proud to support Constantine Energy Storage in advancing the UK’s energy storage capabilities.”
Battery storage is a key pillar of the UK’s renewable strategy, with a goal of reaching 30 GW by 2030. This portfolio will play a crucial role in accelerating the country’s energy transition.
This deal is backed by lenders including NORD/LB, Societe Generale, Virgin Money, and Export Development Canada.
