OMV Petrom, the largest energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, has partnered with Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia) to sign contracts for the design and execution of four photovoltaic parks, totaling approximately 550 MW—surpassing the initial estimate of 450 MW. The parks will be built on CE Oltenia-owned land in Gorj and Dolj counties.
The electricity generated will be delivered to Romania’s National Power Grid, covering the annual consumption of around 410,000 households. The total investment exceeds EUR 400 million, with 70% financed by the Modernization Fund. OMV Petrom and CE Oltenia each hold a 50% stake in the projects.
Two contractors have been selected for the execution:
- A consortium of US-based Ameresco and Greece-based Sunel will develop three parks—Rovinari, Tismana 1, and Tismana 2—totaling around 460 MW.
- Turkish company Girisim Elektrik will build a 90 MW park on the site of the former CE Ișalnița power plant.
Frank Neel, Member of OMV Petrom’s Executive Board, emphasized that this move is a step toward strengthening their renewable energy position. OMV Petrom aims to develop 2.5 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, contributing to Romania’s energy transition with wind and solar power.
