US renewable energy provider Origis Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for a 200-MW solar project with a 200-MW/800-MWh storage facility in Mississippi, it was announced on Tuesday.
Origis will develop, build and operate the Hope solar plus storage complex and sell the electricity to TVA, supporting rapid population and economic growth in the region.
The project, located in Clay County, is expected to come online at the end of 2028, subject to completion of all permits and approvals.
The new project expands Origis and TVA's Mississippi renewable energy portfolio to four projects totalling 750 MW of solar and 350 MW of storage. One of the sites reached commercial operation earlier this year and the remaining two are under construction.
Johan Vanhee, chief commercial and procurement officer for Origis Energy said the partnership is a wind for multiple stakeholders. "Industrial customers benefit by meeting their decarbonisation goals. Residential customers benefit from clean energy that contributes to reliable, affordable, predictable rates. Communities near these projects benefit through the economic activity of construction and job growth from industries these projects attract."
The new facility is projected to deliver USD 182 million (EUR 163m) in near-term construction and hiring gains to the area.
