A new renewable energy project is being prepared by Pan American Energy in Patagonia, namely in an Argentine oil field that is situated between the Chubut and Santa Cruz provinces.
The company's CEO, Marcos Bulgheroni, verified this significant accomplishment for the business and stated during an energy event that “the company is designing a 150 MW wind farm near Cerro Dragón.”
And it should be noted that PAE has the Norte III and IV wind power facilities in this region, both of which were created in conjunction with Genneia and went into service at the beginning of the year with a 140 MW capacity.
Additionally, the company launched the PE Garayalde at the end of 2018, which is a power plant with an installed capacity of 24.15 megawatts and the capability to meet the annual electricity needs of more than 20,000 homes. It is situated in the province of Chubut, about 200 kilometers from Comodoro Rivadavia.
The expert also acknowledged that Pan American Energy wants to grow its renewable energy production in Latin America to between 1 and 2 GW, noting that they “must jump to the second phase of clean energy, which means finding the liquid energy solution to export to the world, such as hydrogen and methanol.”
According to Bulgheroni, PAE is investigating if the aforementioned wind farm generates ammonia or hydrogen because it already has the infrastructure, water, and wind resources necessary to do so.
A 423 MW Novo Horizonte wind farm is also being built by the company formed in 1997 as a result of the merging of Amoco (BP) and Bridas in the Brazilian state of Bahia. Furthermore, it collaborated with Vestas in the middle of this year to supply and install 94 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines for the facility.
Will it be prepared when? The businessman stated, “We want to start it up towards the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.” However, that is not where the project will stay; an extension that would almost double the original capacity is currently being planned.
The CEO of Pan AmericanEnergy stated, “With phase No. 2, we will increase PE Novo Horizonte to 750 MW, with a solar addition (i.e., it will be a hybrid plant), with which we envision a very intriguing region in wind generation.
