The Philippines has called for installation of solar panels in all government agencies and buildings.
The call has been made by the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee through a resolution.
It urged all the government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, universities and colleges, and local government units to install solar panels on their buildings, as per the statement.
The committee has provided three year’s time to install an initial supply of solar panels to government agencies. It expects that the solar panels could meet at least 20% of their electricity requirements.
“Those that will install solar panels or any equivalent renewable energy technology not exceeding 100kW would be eligible to be Qualified End-Users and may enter into a net-metering deal with a distribution utility,” the Department of Energy (DOE) said in a statement.
It further informed that the DOE-Energy Utilization Management Bureau will support government agencies to fulfill the technical requirements to install solar panels on their buildings.
The latest decision comes at a time when solar power use has been an integral part of the Government Energy Management Programme. As per the government, it encourages other entities to cut their electricity consumption by at least 10%.
