Poland seen to deploy record 6 GW of solar in 2023

Poland is on track to connect more than 6 GW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to the grid in 2023, bringing the cumulative solar capacity in the country to over 18 GW, according to estimates by the Institute for Renewable Energy IEO.

The record-high additions are expected to boost the total power production from solar energy in 2023 to 14.6 TWh, the research institute said in its report for 2023.

At the end of 2022, Poland had about 12.4 GW of solar capacity in operation as new installations of a combined 4.7 GW went online during the year.

The overall installed solar capacity passed the 13 GW threshold at the end of the first quarter of 2023, with prosumers accounting for the biggest part of it.

The total investment volume in Poland's solar market is projected to be around PLN 20 billion (USD 4.71bn/EUR 4.4bn) in 2023.
